30 years of practising the traditional art of Shotokan Karate


Formed in 1989, the members of the Ormskirk Shotokan Karate Club have practiced Karate in the traditional Shotokan style for 30 years.

Holding affiliation to the Japan Karate Association (JKA) as well as the International Traditional Karate Federation (ITKF), and the English Karate Governing Body. Members of our club have attended training camps and competitions both in the UK and internationally — training with some of the highest authorities in the world of Karate (both past and present).

Sensei John Errington (7th dan JTKI)

Sensei Errington is both the Chairman and Chief Instructor of our club.

With over 50 years of experience, Sensei Errington has travelled the world, training with many legendary instructors from the world of Karate, as well as competing in multiple national and international championships.

Sensei Errington is also Chief Referee of the United Kingdom Traditional Karate Federation, a fully qualified referee for the International Traditional Karate Federation, and a fully qualified instructor and judge for the Japan Karate Association (JKA).

Sensei Steve Kirrelly (5th dan WSI)

Sensei Kirrelly is both the Treasurer and Assistant Chief Instructor for our club.

With over 50 years of experience, Sensei Kirrelly has travelled the world, training with many legendary instructors from the world of Karate.

Sensei Kirrelly is a fully qualified referee for the International Traditional Karate Federation, and a fully qualified instructor and judge for the Japan Karate Association (JKA).

Sensei Anna Pomfret (4th dan JKA)

Sensei Pomfret is our Club Secretary, as well as one of our Instructors.

Sensei Pomfret has attended many national and international courses, training with a wealth of expert instructors over the course of her career. She is also a fully qualified judge and instructor for the Japan Karate Association (JKA).

Mark Warren (5th dan JKA)

Sensei Warren is our Adult Safeguarding Officer and one of our clubs Instructors.

Attending and competing in multiple courses and competitions (at both a national and international level), Sensei Warren has a wealth of experience which he now passes onto the members of our club every Friday.

Russell Nelson (5th dan JKA)

Sensei Nelson is one of our clubs Instructors.

Attending and competing in multiple courses and competitions (at both a national and international level), Sensei Nelson has a wealth of experience which he now passes onto the members of our club every Monday.

Andy Durney (4th dan JKA)

Sensei Durney is one of our clubs Instructors.

Attending and competing in multiple courses and competitions (at both a national and international level), Sensei Durney has a wealth of experience which he now passes onto the members of our club every Monday and Friday.
